The siren wailed in the morning.

It was the signal of a hidden inheritance: an ancient virus, long entombed, stirring back to life and remaking the world in its own image.

Now Amsterdam has fallen into stillness, its streets emptied, its buildings hollow. But Max remains forgotten by the world, starving and alone, enduring within the fragile sanctuary of his house.

He hasn't seen anyone in a while. The weight of that absence feels heavier than his constant hunger. Yet his determination to survive keeps him bound to his rituals of endurance. Each day grinds thinner; his thoughts fray at the edges, and his memory twists toward hallucination.

The city itself has shifted; its denizens are no longer what they once were. Sometimes Max hears them tapping on the window, like the devil asking to come in, yet he clings to the belief that it is nothing more than his malnourished mind betraying him rather than face the horror of what waits on the other side.
