a beautiful book

This was a beautiful book that I loved as a small child when my great-aunt read it to me, even though the end always made me cry. I recently rediscovered it, and the end made me cry even more because it made me remember my aunt.The book is divided into four (short) chapters, the first three also containing stories told by the old woman character, Vole. (The other characters are Mole, Mouse and Shrew.) Chapter one ("The Quilt") is about sharing; chapter two ("The Birthday Party") is about friendship; chapter three ("Mole is not Mole") is also about friendship and understanding; and chapter four ("An End and a Beginning") is about loss.These are all important lessons which helped shape me into who I am today. (Corny but true.)The book is simplistically written (though that is to be expected from a children's book, and I certainly didn't notice when I was little.) Beautiful stories by Carla Stevens, and charming illustrations by Eve Rice. I highly recommend this for any small child (especially one who likes to tell or be told stories.)
