Important lessons for children to learn

While nursery rhymes are part of the infant subculture of all societies, they are also interesting to examine on two other levels. The first is due to the way in which they reflect many of a cultures myths and social mores. The second is because many of them were originally social and political satires. Centuries ago, to criticize the government was to invite imprisonment or death. One way in which it could be safely done was by writing the criticism in the form of a children's story.
