Ten Year Reunion

Let me start off by saying I have never read anything by Eric Pete. I was pleasantly surprised that "Sticks & Stones" turned out to be one of the best books I have read in a while!!!! Marion High is having it's ten year class reunion. Only for four members of the class, it may bring back past emotions, fears, unresolved issues and a few may have a little something to prove. Tracye was the overweight girl who was the butt of many jokes and had no friends. Tracye experienced plenty of hurt and torture at Marion High. Now Tracey is a successful businesswoman with plenty of money. How will Tracye hold up when confronted with a past she longs to forget? Solomon was the quiet, small weird boy that had no friends. He always felt like he was invisible. Now employed at a local Walgreens as a manager, he fears going to the reunion and is ashamed that he never accomplished more, and that no one will remember him. Solomon always sulked in the shadows at Marion High, but he saw it all and knows more than anyone else!! Karim was the lanky red-headed boy who transferred to Marion High and was tortured physically and verbally by "The Crew" a group of popular jocks and cheerleaders. Now Karim is known as "Special K" and is a hot upcoming music video producer. No longer the nerdy "Carrot Top", Karim is now successful and sexy. He is going to the reunion to see one special girl, and prove he is more than a nerd that can help with math homework. He also knows how to fight and is more than ready for "The Crew" members if they want to feel froggy and decide to leap! Janet was "Miss Thang" in Marion High. Pretty. Popular. Head cheerleader dating the most popular athlete in school. Prom Queen, Homecoming Queen. All that. But her "dream lover" Shaw left her high and dry and Janet's dreams of marrying Shaw and having his kids went down the toilet. Janet jetted off to Vegas and began a career as an "exotic dancer". Janet can't wait to get back to her hometown and strut her stuff at the reunion. Janet wants to reclaim her glory and Shaw...if possible. This is one reunion that these four will never forget! After being seated at the same table these four will realize they have more in common than they ever knew. Secrets will be revealed and the truth will come out. Marion High may be a dilapidated shell of it's former self but the drama that went down their will never be forgotten!!!

GREAT STORY WITH A LESSON TO ADD

This is a great story. The class reunion story has been done before, but not with so much honesty and transparency. The characters are complex and don't fit into the reunion stereotype (i.e. former cheerleader now the unhappy housewife - please?!) Like Eric's other works, the subplots make for a rich story, in a story, in a story, in a story. A quick read, but a good read with some good life lessons!
