Great for Young Readers

My 6-year-old son is a HUGE fan of Star Wars. We don't let him watch the cartoon and he has only seen the movies once, but he seems to know everything about this fictitious world! So, when I noticed him bringing home the DK readers from the school library (all the little boys race to get them at school every week and he can't always get there first!), I knew just what kind of books to buy so he always has some at home to read. It is very important to have books available on topics kids love so they will love reading! Good job DK. We are amassing quite a library and he is so proud that he can read them himself!

Awesome Father's Day gift!

I ordered this book as a little something extra for my husband for his first Father's Day - he is a HUGE Star Wars fan and I know he's looking forward to teaching our daughter about Star Wars... Book was in excellent shape!

A fun look at R2-D2

As the title indicates, "R2-D2 and Friends" is about everybody's favorite astromech droid. The book examines R2-D2's designed purpose, his abilities and important missions. No discussion of R2 would be complete without mentioning his other half, C-3PO. Some of the droid duo's famous adventures are recalled, like their time together with Jabba the Hutt. Afterwards, other robots are explored like the GNK droids, medical robots and combat droids. Written in the first person, "R2-D2 and Friends" has a warm, conversational tone. This book is good for most third grade readers. At thirty-two pages, the read is short and there is little text on each page. That written, the vocabulary tends to be high so it's either best as a read-aloud to younger children or independently enjoyed by stronger readers. The illustrations are attractive as they were all lifted from the films or pulled from the Lucas archives. The scope covers the entire saga. In addition to providing comic relief, R2-D2 saved the day more than once. "R2-D2 and Friends" is a fun look at one of the all-time most cherished robots.
