Legacy Quirk, a temporary office worker, runs into a very delicate situation in her new position in a law firm in Austin, Texas. The first day is smooth sailing but the next one throws her into a confrontation with one of the attorneys. Legacy has spent her whole life with a parade of imaginary friends, one of whom turns out to be the missing sister of the attorney in question. Legacy has no idea how to explain to the attorney just exactly where her information originated.As a woman whose mother died and whose father drifted away years before, Legacy must rely on the rules she has made for herself. These rules are a mix of Eastern theology, self-preservation, con techniques, and common sense.Legacy comes out of this confrontation with the help from several new friends. An attorney from the same firm, an artist who owns an art gallery and the artist's brother who is also an attorney join forces with Legacy to find the answer to the disappearance of a four-year old girl twenty years earlier.The unlikely team travels from Austin across West Texas and then up through North Texas as they search for the answers. Along the way, each of the members learns truths about themselves and their lives, even though they don't always believe those revelations. The seeds have been planted though and can't be erased as the chase carries them to the truth behind the loss of one small girl.
