The Ariel Gold Series Heats Up

While the first two books (Double Take & Fast Forward) in the series left me a little cold- Split Image heats up!! And like a previous reviewer said, Mercer struck Gold! Whenever we meet Ariel Gold (TV producer turned host) she is in the middle of solving a crime or two. This book is no different- only this time it seems she may have been taken in by the criminal- or not- was he wrongly accused? While friends & family can only sit by as Ariel seems to get more & more wrapped up at finding the killer. Only, it may not be who she thinks it is and her very life may be in danger. I felt like Mercer really found her voice with this third book in the series and became a much better writer over-all. The story is very tight, easy to follow, characters developed and the suspense is enough to drive you crazy!! The only thing that disappointed me was that I'm still waiting to learn more about Ariel's amnesia & her life beforehand. I'm hoping the 4th book- Blind Spot- may deal with that.

Very captivating..... couldn't put it down!

Judy Mercer is a very talented author. I loved the way she was able to mix a little bit of romance with mystery. The plot line is interesting and easy to follow. From the beginning she captures the reader and it's very hard to put the book down. I highly recommend it.

Split Image is a fantastic suspense story........

Judy Mercer has done something that is very hard to do and that is make her third book in the Ariel Gold series even better than the previous two. Her characters are very well drawn with excellent dialogue. The ending will stay with you. I hope you know someone else that reads the book because you will want to discuss the ending with them! I hope we don't have to wait as long for the next in this series to come out. Well done Ms. Mercer.

I love Ariel Gold and care about her life..

Split Image.. People Magazine (1/11/99) called it " page turner of the week ". Not an exaggeration. I couldn't put it down. It has a plausable plot full of twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. After reading Mercer's first two books, Fast Forward and Double Take, I feel like Ariel Gold is an old friend that I care about. I eagerly awaited this new book and it was everything I had hope for and more. This is not a book of the female detective genre popular only with woman readers, Ariel Gold speaks to everyone. My husband liked the book too. Mercer's dialog is fresh and smart A must for anyone who wants an enjoyable, fun and exciting read. What's next? And when?

Excellent tale that transcends genre

TV Newsmagazine producer Ariel Gold tries to step in front of the camera as a replacement for one of her former reporters. She quickly realizes that she does not have the type of talent that the screen requires even though her memory fails to go back more than the past year and friends and workers have to inform her of events before the amnesia left a large blank slate in which the events concerning the first thirty-two years of her life are missing . However, Ariel's past surfaces when she meets Jack Spurling, who was the focus of a case she covered. Now she does not remember doing it or even ever seeing the man. Jack was acquitted by a hung jury of murdering his wife. Ariel is attracted to Jack and wants to believe that he would never be a killer. Since she is used to digging up clues to her own past, Ariel decides to investigate what really happened to Jack's spouse. However, as she gets closer to the truth, Ariel begins to fear that she is wrong and Jack just might be the cold blooded killer who got away with murder. The third Ariel Gold mystery, SPLIT IMAGE, is a fabulous amateur sleuth thriller that may be one of the sub-genre's top five books of the year. The action is nonstop and the personal relationships add authenticity to the growing terror felt by Ariel. The characters are all well drawn and the motive for the original murder of Jack's wife makes sense in today's headline news. Ariel remainsn an endearing player who garners much empathy and admiration. This reviewer recommends this novel and the previous two books (FAST FORWARD an DOUBLE TAKE) for anyone who enjoys a taut suspense-laden chiller.Harriet Klausner
