Spirituality

I've read some comments in general by younger people and their focus today. But they must remember that in the past, many people in spirituality worked hard at "working together and trying to get along with each other's differences" and that is what many spiritual books grew out of since the 1980s and have tried to do. For 5000 years we have had to deal with both the patriarch and religions thrust upon everyone, whether we wanted this or not. GenX (b 1957-1972) focused for the first time starting in the late 70s, on how we can move away from patriarchal doctrine and focus on our health through more spiritual approaches, living green, and organic gardening or recover from them like all spiritual people had to, and that did not matter if they were red, white, yellow, black or brown. Be thankful and you were blessed because of all nations of spiritual people who brought forth what was tabood, profaned, and disrespected by patriarchs and religious men in power.

fictional story of a shaman combined w/nonfictional info

One chapter is the fictional story of a young Native American girl, who is learning to become a shaman; the next chapter gives you notes on the lessons being learned by the young girl. That's the format of this book, cover to cover. It's kind of a guide, to teach you what Native American shamanism was like historically, and how to apply some of that knowledge in your own life. I enjoyed the book, overall, but I am willing to retain the information I find believable and useful, leaving behind any information that sounds sort of goofy. The fictional portion of the book was mildly entertaining, though a bit idealistic.

I was looking for a book that would describe native american magical systems and healing practices. I find Atwood's work to be excellent and thurough. This book is excellent for a beginner's introduction to magical arts including crystals, aura/chakra, healing, and herbs. Each section is introduced with the story of a shaman in training. The stories provide examples and help to clarify the arts described. I really enjoyed this book and still enjoy it whenever i get it back from my friends. They insist on borrowing it. I highly reccomend this book and hope that its readers find it as useful as I do.

The beauty of simplicity and absolute faith

Spirit Healing is a story and a guide. Alternate chapters tell the story of Native American girl's journey to womanhood and the status of shaman, and present Native symbols, ceremonies, and rituals, explained and adopted for use in the modern world. The book explains the incredible power of faith and ritual in the art of healing and obtaining the abilitiy to manfest a desired reality. The basis of this spiritul power is absolute simplicity--live in harmony with the Creator, the universe, and the Earth, respect all living things both plant and animal, and practice absolute faith. The results can be magical and even miraculous. It is a delightful read, a little book containing directions for obtaining tremendous spiritual power which can then be directed for the greater good of all. Highly recommended.
