Still crazy after all these years...

With most new systems shipped with Win2K or ME, some people question whether knowledge of MS-DOS is still a viable, marketable skill. It could very well be, if you're one of these people:A hot-shot network admin whose first job duties are to compose login scripts and set up a NetWare server;A power gamer trying to get old favorites to run on a new box;A beginning programmer wondering why their code works on their machine, but won't run correctly or even install on other PCs;A clueless new user who has done something horribly wrong, recoiling in terror because there's nothing but a "C" on the screen AND THE MOUSE DOESN'T WORK!If you're one of these people - that is, if you own a PC - you will eventually have to come to terms with the DOS command line. The DOS Bible for All Users

I have bought this book because I kept encountering problems with the new Windows Me program and needed to get behind it to fix some of the snags. This book has detailed information for everyone, though it may be a bit advanced for beginners. But if you are a computer user comfortable in doing things with your own computer, this is the book you want. Even with the impending merge of the various Windows systems, you will still want to know this information, I can assure you!

A Great DOS Book

I just started a new job yesterday working with DOS and an extensive Netware network. I'm primarily a UNIX guy, and I have no decent DOS book, especially to use as a reference. It took me only a few minutes looking at this book to win me over. Up until now, I had never seen a great book on DOS. This should help me to help my new employer make a graceful switch over to UNIX. I hope to have a hand in converting all the icky DOS batch files we have into elegant Perl scripts :-) and I'm really looking forward to that!

The BEST(!) DOS Reference Book I have found

I teach computer courses at a State run Community College and this book is the BEST reference book on MS-DOS that I have come across. It is NOT a "cookbook" text that guides a new user through DOS exercises by handholding, but it is THE book to have on your library shelf if you have a question about MS-DOS. It is the best reference book I have found in the years I have been teaching PC Operating System classes.

This book has helped me immensely in my understanding of DOS. I needed a foundation for A+ certification and this book gave me what I needed and wanted in learning DOS. After reading several chapters the lights began coming on in my head and I understood why and how DOS functions. If you want a thorough grounding in DOS, its commands and structure, this is the book for you.
