Sonata for Trumpet and Piano, Op. 111

My Sonata for Trumpet and Piano, Op. 111 was completed in April 2026. I began writing it in 2015 with a middle movement that I feel evokes a feeling of pride and the dignity inherent in my county's better ideals.
In 2026 I decided to use two existing works to complete the sonata. So, I used a setting I'd written in 1986 for alto of e. e. cummings' poem, "i thank you God for most this amazing". The music expresses the exultant feeling of the poem and ends with a solemn and hushed reverence.
For the third movement, I chose the third movement of my Sonata for Cello and Piano No. 2. The music here expresses joy and optimism. A middle section returns to a reverence felt in the beauty and mystery of nature and life itself.
