In A Sleepwalker in Istanbul, ric Faye searches through the prism of his travels for a definition of identity. Places? A language? Or an era with its own distinctive skies and moods? This exploration takes us to northern latitudes from Greenland to Siberia, but also to Japan and central Europe, as well as some Hitchcock locations in California... but it revolves around the streets of Istanbul, on the sleepwalking trail of a deposed "red sultan", the very man who allowed the Berlin wall to be opened. From Germany to Nagasaki, from Hiroshima to Okinawa, the past hypnotises passers-by as if, deep down, identity is nothing more than a moment in time carried on our shoulders.

ric Faye is the author of many novels and travel memoirs published by Stock, including Mes trains de nuit (2005), L'homme sans empreintes (2008), Nous aurons toujours Paris (2009) and Nagasaki (2010, winner of the Grand Prix for a novel from the Acad mie fran aise). In 2011 he and Christian Garcin co-wrote En descendant les fleuves, an account of their travels across eastern Russia.
