I have a degree in Sociology, and also took some classes from the authors. I bought this book even though I didn't need it for a class but just wanted to have a good general Sociology textbook on hand for reference purposes. I've never regretted the purchase as it is indeed a very easy to read book and geared towards students, ie "user friendly." They made it easy to read so that people would actually read it. Although I tend to be a quantitative thinker, much like Dr. Chompalov, I think this book is actually written more for qualitative thinkers. I do know that they used the Comic Sans Serif font at the suggestion of a former male grad student who worked with them on the book, because research at the time of writing showed it to be the easiest to read font in some survey which was later proven to be skewed, but they meant well at the time of writing. They also named the title of the book using a name suggested by a former female undergraduate student who contributed to their next book, which isn't published yet, but I look forward to purchasing it when it comes out even though I've long since graduated. I like this book so much that it was one of the few books that I took with me in a move to Canada!! The other book I took was my invaluable SPSS text which I use all the time in figuring z-scores and sig diffs. If anything, the next edition of this book could possibly be a little more quantitatively inclined for people like me who like to do the math.
