"The Seekers" are Great!

My eight year old granddaughter read installment three "Smoke Mountain" and loved it! She read it aloud as we return home from school (about a thirty minute drive) and I loved it. One can mentally picture Hunter's characters and the scenes she writes about in her books. The descriptions are clear and her writing is wonderful. I highly recommend the "Seekers." My granddaughter can't wait until January 2010 for the 4th book.

Seekers beats warriors by a long shot

N.a seekers is epic warriors is soo ... boring seekers really makes you think warriors just shows Nothing Buy seekers burn warriors(but i have cats i don't hate cats just to keep things right)

I read this book with my 5 and 7 yo boys. It is a great wild life adventure with good values

Reviewed by Ben Weldon (age 11) for Reader Views (7/09) "Seekers #3: Smoke Mountain" by Erin Hunter is the adventurous story of four bears: Kallik, a polar bear; Lusa, a black bear; Toklo, a grizzly; and Ujurak, a shape shifting black bear cub. All four of them have been separated from their families even though they are still just cubs. While they are stranded in a cold unfamiliar place, the fight for survival takes place all the time. Will the bears be able to survive in this harsh wilderness? On their way to the Last Great Wilderness, the four friends must pass many dangers. These include flat-face hunters, strange looking firebeasts (cars), and last but not least Smoke Mountain. On their journey, they find an old bear who tells them a safer path that avoids the treacherous Smoke Mountain. But when they are swept off course during the swim across the great river, they are stranded on Smoke Mountain. Can they survive the dangers? Will they finally reach the Last Great Wilderness and safety? There is a cool Seekers website that has all sorts of information on the characters and the author. Erin Hunter is actually not one but four people. They all love bears and cats and wrote the Warriors series. I would recommend "Seekers #3: Smoke Mountain" to people who like books about animals and bears in particular. This adventure story was packed full of suspense and action and once you get your hands on it you won't want to put it down. There is a fourth book coming out and I can't wait to read it.

Kallik is a young polar bear living in the frigid north with her mom and brother. She knows she has a lot to learn before she will be able to survive on her own. However, she isn't too worried as long as she has her mom to keep her safe and fed. But then comes the accident. Suddenly on her own, Kallik struggles to survive. Lusa is a young black bear who has lived her entire life in a zoo. She hasn't had too many worries, as the fences keep her safe from predators, and the zoo keepers feed her every day. And then she makes a promise to a dying friend, a risky promise that requires her to escape the zoo fences. She cleverly manages to do just that. Suddenly on her own, Lusa struggles to survive. Toklo is a young grizzly bear living near the mountains with his mom and sickly brother. When his brother dies, his mom is so overcome with grief, she chases Toklo away from her. Suddenly on his own, Toklo struggles to survive. Ujurak is another young brown bear with a few unique talents, including the ability to change shape into other animals. He also receives dreams and can read signs from the spirits. On his own, Ujurak struggles to survive. These four young bear cubs stumble into each other's lives and manage to form a unique family all their own. They rely on one another for survival and love as they struggle to complete their quest --- a search for a new home. But they encounter many obstacles and dangers in their path, including all of the sicknesses the wild is suffering, mostly from the hands of humans. SMOKE MOUNTAIN starts off where the second book, GREAT BEAR LAKE, left off, with the four bears setting out from Great Bear Lake following the huge Longest Day celebration. Lusa spent quality time with some real wild black bears. Toklo faced his fear of water and came to peace with his mother and brother's spirits. And Kallik finally found her long-lost brother, Taqqiq, and convinced him to join them on their quest.
