Slow wisdom is a Baptist model of communual discernment in practice at the Church Meeting. This qualitative research project explores how four Baptist churches discern the 'mind of Christ' together. An analysis of the historical and biblical basis of the Baptist Church Meeting is provided. As a new articulation of discernment practice slow wisdom is unpacked through the themes of slowness, prayer, listening, hearing, consensus agreement and prophetic participation. It is a form of embodied Christian practical wisdom. Slow wisdom is compared to bell hooks' engaged pedagogy and practical wisdom. Willie Jennings' analysis of structural racism is used to unpack the barriers to attendance in communual discernment. It is the hope of the author that slow wisdom gives a renewed outlook on the practice of the Church Meeting as a place of radical and prophetic opportunity for the Spirit to lead the church wherever God may lead.
