Sleep: perchance to dream: A guide to finding the elusive

Good, deep, restorative sleep appears to be an elusive quality nowadays. As our environment changes, the number of negative influences on our ability to get a good night's sleep increases; dietary influences, of course, abound. The numerous nutrients which are required to initiate and complete the stages of the sleep cycle give you an idea of the complexity of the state known as sleep. These nutrients are looked at in detail offering alternatives to the sleeping pills often prescribed which don't address the underlying issues involved in poor sleep habits. Good sleep is our right and it is within our grasp.
The author also looks at how pain and nocturia, menopause and mattresses affect us. Chronic pain is looked at in some detail since it strongly impacts sleep quality but some mattresses and the menopause increase bodily heat when a lowering of body temperature is needed to initiate the first stage of sleep.
All in all, a great book for discovering the numerous factors which can negatively impact sleep and, more importantly, what you can do about it.
