focused, concise, informative, inspiring

imagine if you were out with your sketchbook and took a short moment to capture what you see before you. this book is about that. finding the shape, adding the details, conveying the form. all in a quick thumbnail. the best book i've seen on the subject. it's a brisk read. sketches dominate every page (shown in actual size) with brief remarks placed in and around them. it offers a general overview of how to go about a sketch. and there is plenty of inspiration to be had from every page. A sketching classic

I had this book years ago, loaned it out, never got it back. Only one better, and it's by the same author "The Sketch in Color". These two gave me a quantum leap in my indoor and outdoor sketching, especially with pen and ink and watercolor (although the books cover well other drawing media, and painting media). If you're into sketching and want to get better, these books will provide excellent instruction, examples of technique, and a host of beautiful sketches.
