It was a good read

From all the praises, I thought this one would knock my socks off. That did not happen. It was an interesting concept of a bigamist. I don't think it was intentional. Dana and Chaurisse was so different from each other. Dana and her mom learned to live without being exposed but they suffered in the end, but they did not allow their inconvenience to deter them from success. Dana was a smart girl who needed fatherly guidance and what she got from the bigamist, James ,was support and not enough love. James and his wife was so dysfunctional and they believe that they had received the gold gift once they received some money. Chaurisse was spoiled and out of touch. I really feel sorry for Raleigh. He never found self-love and understanding, and he adjusted to just getting by and not bucking the system. I hated the ending. I think they should have made James suffer for the pain he put Dana and her mom. The ending left too many loose endings.

Decent read

As a whole, I liked this book. It was incredibly easy to read, none of the long-winded prose that makes books sluggish. It was similar to watching a movie...I was engrossed in it and read it in two sittings. There wasn't exactly a clear climax, and no resolution, but in a way it was fitting to the story. You got a glimpse into the lives of the characters, but like a documentary, their lives aren't over or tied up in a pretty bow just because the story ends. I'd recommend it to avid readers, because I did enjoy it. However, it's not a must-read and I'd pick other books to recommend for once in a while readers.

Great book, easy read. I will probably purchase more from this author.

No Words.

Absolutely loved this book. It was a required reading for my composition class and I fell in love with it.
