The story of a Californian’s first exposure to a Siberian steam bath is something to laugh about—later. When the Harrises moved to Siberia they discovered what culture-shock is all about. True tales... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Dear Bill, After reading Siberian Shivers I got a copy of your books the Peterburgers and The Great Siberian Rail Adventure. All three of these books are amazingly true and delightful reading. I cannot believe how many of your experiences were situations my wife and I found ourselves in as well. We lived in Novosibirsk, Russia for 9 years and traveled by train a number of times. On our first journey to Moscow (52 hours) we traveled with 12 other Russians from our church. We naively took 2 large pull behind suitcases and a carry-on bag each while our Russian friends had small duffle bags for our 8-9 day stay in the capital. Our suitcases caused a real mess in the train as you can well imagine. Your cat story was hilarious. Please know that your books have been the best reading of my entire Russian library. You have helped me relive our years in Siberia 1999-2008 and caused great feelings of nostalgia each time I sat down to read. In the three books, you did an outstanding job articulating the Russian culture and with a delightful humorous wit. Bob Piatt

Bill Harris has done something unique. He has written a technical book on cross-cultural communication that is fun to read. The use of the personal experiences of himself, his family and his colleagues makes communication between Americans and Siberians both intriguing and wryly funny. One reader called Harris a Siberian Garrison Kiellor.
