"This is more than an ordinarily good novel...it illuminates the subjects it touches and it will reward the serious reader richly."The Washington Post This description may be from another edition of this product.
I read this book years ago and have not read any other works by this author as it is rare to come across her work, which is a shame. This is witty and intelligent novel about an the wife of an academic taking a hiatus in the southwest from her marriage. Ann encounters a series of bohemian types who are in fact as tightly wound as any Wall Street banker, they just have a different agenda to push. The novel includes an observation I have found true time and time again; these types often have hidden resources that allow to pursue alternate lifestyles. The sharp observations of Ann and her own wry self awareness made for an excellent read.
