I'm finding good reads far and few between and was pleasantly surprised by Sheer Necessity.A good book should make you care about the characters and I did. Family is so very important and I really liked how the various people we can be got explored. I've added Ms. Mitchell to my author to watch list.
MUCH BETTER, Read this one!

FAMILY IS FAMILY (I think we forget that sometimes). This is one of the best descriptions of what family is all about. There will be ups and downs, but as long as you stick together all things will end well. The characters were so real, the loving mother who's always willing to sacrifice for her children and grandchildren, the strong silent father that will hurt the man that lays a hand on his daughter, but softens when he's around his grandchildren. I especially thought the relationship between Toni and her sisters was well written. I kept hoping Lynn would stand up for herself. When she finally did there was still a message violence begats more violence. I could imagine all the characters, I felt like I was there. I'm so glad I tried her again. I am looking forward to more from Sharon Mitchell.
WELL WRITTEN WITH AN INTERESTING MIX OF CHARACTERS

I really enjoyed this novel. I felt that the characters presented in this novel were true to form and could be members of anyone's family. Each daughetr found herself tackling heavy issues and in the long run, overcoming those issues and leading a better life. Although each one of the daughters had their problems with men, and with themselves for that matter, I loved the authors portrayal of the depth of the trust, love, support and respect which existed between the parents and the concentration on the family unit. Ironically though, the same love support, trust and respect which sustained the parents marriage for 30+ years, elluded their daughters. They just don't make things like they used to! My parents will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary next year (God willing). The effort and hard work necessary, on both of their parts, to sustain their relationship over the years is something pretty rare. In any event, I thought the book was good and a must read for anyone who has strong roots in family
I wish I could find more novels like it

An enjoyable read about some very realistic struggles in one african-american family. I appreciate the core of the family being two loving parents who did what they could to help each of their children. Let's encourage other authors to write with this kind of realism -- less titillation and more development. The author dealt with the problems; she didn't just bring them up for sensational effect.
WOW...WHAT A GREAT COME BACK.

I enjoyed this book very much. Through ups and downs family has to stick together. Your love for one another grows through ups and downs.I really enjoyed the character of Toni. She shows that one can do anything if you put your mind to it. Marvin was a trip. I was glad to see that he decided to get a job. Why did Lynn stay with Bruce so long? I hope not for the kids. He really was mean to her and the children. I love a book with a happy ending. I have recommended this novel to some of my co-workers. I just know they will love it as much as I did. Sharon, you are showing out now girl. Keep up the good work. Be Blessed!
