I loved reading this book! I believe it expands and is a sequel to the New 52 origin of Shazam, though I haven’t read that, and I don’t think you absolutely need to either. I’ve only read the 70s comics and seen the 2019 movie, but I wasn’t confused going into this story. I loved Billy and his relationships with his siblings in this; them acting as children their age but also them seeing the responsibility that comes with being Shazam’s champion. I also loved that it delved deeper into the magic side of Shazam, that was great to read and see. You might be a bit confused with a character or two, but I still think if you’re new to Shazam, it’s a great read to get to know Billy and his family. It’s a fun and emotional book about family, love, and responsibility.
