Shanty Boy

By Helen Block

Life as Noah knew it had ended. Now an orphan, he had to say goodbye to the one person left in the world he loved, his sister, Faith. She waved frantically as the train track curved to the north, taking him further away from her, and the life he knew and loved. Everything had happened so fast, and Noah wasn't sure when he would see her again, but he was determined to find a way for them to stay together. What lay ahead for Noah? He could never have imagined the things he would see and do in the year to come. The people he would meet, and the work he would do, would change him, but he vowed to keep his promises to the sad little girl he left on a train platform. Chugging down the tracks in a steaming metal behemoth told Noah he had entered a strange new world. It was a world he'd have to use every bit of strength and wits he had to survive.
