Shades of Blue

By Shoshanah Kagan

It should have been a most joyful time in Shoshanah Kagan's life. She had just given birth to her second child and everyone was healthy and well. She had a wonderful, dedicated husband, and both children were adorable as they were cooperative and good. So why was she feeling the exact opposite of joyful? Why did she feel like she was in the depths of a black pit with no way out? Why had she, a devoted Jewish mother, suddenly begun harboring such frightful and horrid thoughts? What were these severe panic attacks she'd begun to experience? And most importantly, was there any way for her to get out of this terrible rut? In Shades of Blue, author Shoshanah Kagan relives her experience with Postpartum Depression in an incredibly honest and candid way. In her warm and inviting writing style, she relates each step of her heart-wrenching journey into the world of emotional illness, from the start of her horrific symptoms; to her feelings of denial, guilt, and shame; to her eventual acceptance of her situation and beginning to reach out for help; to her ultimate salvation. Also included is a special chapter written by Shoshanah's husband, on his perspective as the husband of a woman suffering from PPD. Part Two of the book is devoted to providing information on PPD from a medical perspective. Various medical professionals who are outstanding in their fields, including a psychiatrist, OB/GYN, pediatrician, and more, have been interviewed regarding the details of this illness, the way it can manifest itself, and the methods for its treatment.
