Cynthia Heimel is the author of seven books and numerous columns and articles. She lives in Oakland, California, with her boyfriend, his son and too many dogs.
This book was ground-breaking when it first appeared in 1983. Seventeen years later, Heimel still matters. She matters because what she says is important, and it's also funny. She matters because when you read her you want to hang out with her - if you're a guy you want to date her and if you're a chick you want to cruise with her. Heimel even has guidelines on when a guy can say "chick". Her work marks a highwater mark in the war between the sexes - rarely have such sensitive issues been addressed with such grace and wit - Heimel Rules! - Julius, NYC

Delicious blend of decidedly helpful advice and dirty (yet delightful) interspersions of fun! She makes the uneasiness about even the purchase of a book entitled "Sex Tips..." disappear. Overall, wonderful tips in a cute style!
As a man eavesdropping, hilarious, accurate

I first read this book about ten years ago not long after I had graduated from college. My eye was caught by a rather provacative cover. I randomly picked a page and before having finished the first paragaph, was laughing out loud. I quickly chose another section of the book and likewise was again laughing out loud. Moreover, her understanding of my sex was uncanny. There was great pleasure knowing that a woman so unearringly had captured the masculine psyhe. For years afterward when I would find myslef in a difficult phase in a relationship, I would reread the book. This never failed to give me faith that is was possible for a man and woman to truly umderstand each other.
Zen And The Art Of Cynthia Heimel

In the fit of a boy depression, a very good friend, and fellow chick, handed me this book. I expected sappy, slightly erotic stories. I got not only good advice, but an instant pick me up that works still. Heimel writes for no generation of women but for all real women. If you want it all, but know you'll never be able to handle it, or if you want to get married and have kids, but know you'll keep your sense of self along the way, this is for you. It's not for those out there who loose themselves in relationships (and like it), but those who want reminders on how not to do that. It's also good for those times when dating seems just too much. Read this and you'll remember what it's all about.
