This is a fictional story for young adults. A metaphorical comment on the state of affairs in the world today; a fabled narration of characters who are the creatures of prey and their carnivorous predators living in the woods, forests, and mountains. These woods, forests and mountains are imaginary, sometimes magical, where no humans exist. Except, though, living among them is one boy and one girl. The boy is guided by the good intentions of a loving spirit. But the girl is controlled by the mal-intent of an evil specter. Her mission is a murderous one - to lead these carnivores, for their own survival, to the slaughter for food, of all the beasts of prey in and around the woods where the boy lives. The animals of prey are protected by a giant bear who is given a soul by the good guardian ghost. This transformation in the bear creates a loving connection between the bear and the boy. During the course of war - before, during, and after - between the predators and the prey, self-realization, enlightenment, and redemption come to the boy and to the girl; and for the big bear the sacrifice of a patriot. And in the end, life comes full circle in the woods where the boy lives among the predators and the preyed upon.
