If you like The Torn Birds, this is definatly a book for you

This is quite possibly one of the best books I have ever read. I was fasinated with the story and literly never put it down until I was finished. This is the story of a women, Rose who meets and falls in love with a preist, Ellis. Ellis is a man who has gone through a troubled but mysterios childhood. He meets Rose after seeking treatment for migraine headaches. He is unsure of his choosen vocation and is unsure of what he wants to do with his life. He leaves his preisthood for the love of Rose but after a summer of romance his past and emotional troubles come to haunt him. What happens is unexpected and sad. This is more then the "old tales" of a preist falling in love, but a story of undying devotion, mystery and misconceptions. A must read for anyone who loves a great story!!!

It is so good it is hard to put down

I really enjoyed this book. I could not put it down because I was so anxious to see if Rose did find Ellis and if they were still in love with one another. It was pleasing to see Ellis had finally found peace after so much pain. It is quite a different story all together, but still a good one.

A haunting love story

In 1965, recently widowed Rose Connolly Keating meets Father Ellis Barlowe on a small barrier island off the coast of Maine. Though Rose is the one who should be suffering from her recent loss (the suicide of a mentally insane spouse), it is the priest who is actually tormented by his past and the doubts they raise in his mind. Still Rose and Ellis have a torrid summer affair. However, it quickly ends because of his inability to cope with his problems, especially his illicit relationship with her. Over the years, the duo exchanges letters until Ellis suddenly stops writing for no apparent reason. In 1995, Rose is emotionally shaken by another death. She decides to see if history will repeat itself by searching for Ellis to provide her comfort. She has trouble finding her only true love, but eventually they reunite. Will passion enflame them forever? Or will this be like the first time, a short explosive fuse with no future? ...... On the surface, SECRET VOW appears to be a typical contemporary romance that explores the ability of love to redeem two lost souls. However, the novel is less about flaming passion, and more about living by the axiom "to thine own self be true".
