Addie Thornton arrives by train in snowy Ouray, Colorado in 1896. She's here to support her Aunt Sarah, who lost her husband. Her stay in Ouray gets off to an uncertain start. Through a window, Addie sees a stranger watching their house.

There's one person Aunt Sarah warns Addie to stay away from. Daniel Montgomery. Sarah is adamant he murdered her husband. Addie respects her aunt's wishes, but Daniel is not the man her aunt believes him to be.
