...a book like this was published. It was great to read a gay love story that did not revolve around sex. If people were to read this book, they would see that gay men have the same relationship concerns, and family concerns, that straight couples do as well. I was able to, unfortunately, relate to both characters in the book, from different places in my life. He captured the emotions well. A must read for any gay couple, especially if one already has children.
A Story That Needed to Be Told, and Told More Often

Second Chances is truly a story that needed to be told. It portrays the life of two gay men raising one of the men's children. In a time of increasing intolerance and bigotry, this novel brings to the surface two major issues that need to be discussed openly in our society - gay parenting and gay domestic violence. Although gay parenting has been written about several times in books such as "Daddy's Roommate" which was written for children in order to understand gay parenting issues, this book delves into the deeper and darker area of domestic violence in gay relationships - something that needs to be discussed more often and more openly. Although the domestic violence theme was not as fully explored as I wish it would have been, freshman author Brian Fletcher did an excellent job bringing the issue to light in this wonderfully crafted and tender story. There were moments of comedy, tenderness, passion and, yes, violence. In fact, if it weren't for a few adult sex scenes, I would highly recommend this book be available for high school students who need to understand that gay relationships often favor straight ones (with both trials and triumps, joy and pain), and for those teens questioning their sexuality, that they are not alone. In fact, parents of gay teens should read this book and share it with their teens as a way of fostering mutual understanding and communication, and hopefully, fostering healthy relationships in the future.

Great book and I look forward to future books from Brian Fletcher. I couldn't put the book down and I sat down to read it straight through. The way he was able to flow from one persons thoughts to the next person is perfect. A great story about Rich and Jack and the problems they must over come to in there relationship while raising to young children.
