I am fortunate to know the characters.

Lois' book was about a real life situation. My former boss, Ed Suplee and his wife Carollynn would go every year to see the ponies. They would donate money each year to let a pony become free. That particular year, they donated money so that a little girl could receive the pony. Since then, Carollynn has passed with cancer and Ed is living in Pennsylvania. I love and miss them both very much. They even signed my book as a joke but I cherish it now.

Horse lovers will enjoy this one...

The seventieth annual pony swim on Chincoteague Island was going to be special! Every year, Alison's family went there on vacation. Every year, Alison begged for her parents to buy a pony. Every year, they replied they could not afford to purchase one. This year though, Alison saved up $500 to bid on a pony. Her parents agreed she could buy a pony if she had enough money. The problem was that most of them sold for $1,000 or more! *** Sea Feather is the perfect name for this horse. You will see why in the story. Perfect story for ages 8 - 14, especially for girls who adore ponies! The story is well written and flows smoothly. Recommended. ***

A Role Model for Giving Back

If you are searching for just the right book for your children that features characters learning the life lesson of "giving back", this is the best book you could choose. The characters of Carolynn and Ed are close friends and truly give back everyday. Unfortunately for the world, Carollynn recently succumbed to cancer, but her loving spirit of making others feel special lives on through this book. Children will read how determination, faith and loving others will bring unexpected rewards.

A wonderfully realistic story

As with all of Szymanski's books, parents and other adults form strong role models for the young characters. The beautifully realistic illustrations enhance the story. I love the interaction between the older and younger sister as they alternate between getting along and bickering - just like real sisters! And the setting is so detailed, I feel like I could go to Assateague & Chincoteague Islands and feel right at home. Syzmanski provides a moral to the story when Alison and Laura find that learning to give is so much more important than getting.
