Full Description: The main theme of the story is 'anti-war', and over the first few chapters this is explored through the lens of a society that has been at war for over fifteen hundred years. The main character in the story, Kane, is a legendary Shangan Warrior, a master tactician who has led his people through countless ritualized battles governed by the ancient 'Articles of War'. Though he's a hero of the Shan community, he's a man haunted by the senselessness of a conflict designed never to end.But then, when a mysterious stranger and an old mentor reveal a shattering truth, Kane's world is turned upside down.
The warring stalemate between the Shan and the Surks has been a fa ade, a controlled evolutionary project engineered by the 'Ancients', and now, a new threat from beyond their borders forces these life-long enemies to do the unthinkable; unite or perish.
As the story progresses, especially towards the middle and latter chapters, the theme is expanded as the main characters unite and have to overcome many new dangers and challenges, and 'earn' the right to go out and search for their kin folk, who they've been told are spread throughout the galaxy.
The Latter chapters involve the main characters confronting all sorts of interesting dilemmas - with some a lot closer to home than you might anticipate from the earlier chapters.
