Very informative, a great learning book.

Yes, this book may be somewhat repetitive, yes, it may not go over some of the newer technologies in great detail, but what do you expect from a book meant for total beginners? I found this book very easy to understand. It brings you from a know-nothing wannabe-programmer to being somewhat knowledgable in the realm of programming. It covers the basics, I/O, buttons, menus, ActiveX controls, and so forth. The book may be repetitive, but it gets everything in your head. Also, the excercises at the end of each chapter are great, and are an excellent tool to help enforce what you just learned. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to learn Visual C++.

A GREAT BOOK FOR BEGINNING PROGRAMMERS

Just starting C++ programming can be very difficult. Many books that are out there require you to have a background in C++ for you to use the book. Well this book is different!! All you have to have is some sort of C++ program and you're on your way! It's very easy, and also interesting at the same time. You will end up finishing the book in 10 - 12 days!

What a wonderful book!

After using Visual C++ 1.5, I hadn't touched Visual C++ until 5.0. This book really did a good job of teaching me the differences as well as helping with the transition from 16 bit to 32 bit. Hey, I work for an insurance company. We're not bleeding, leading, or edge.

Perfect book to fill the C/C++ to Windows programming gap

PROS: Wonderful book! Fast Results. I was only on day 6 when I had my first Visual C++ program published. This is a great book to get you started with windows programming. Easy to follow as long as you know C/C++ and understand pointers(for the later chapters.) Once completed it is a great refernece. I have showed the book to friends who have NO programming experience and they did quite well.CONS: The book mentions nothing about the Debugger . The debugger is a MUST if you wish to use Vis C++ professionally. The book sometimes has you do alot of things without a clear explaination of why. Thus it is easy to think you know what is going on, when you really don't.REQUIREMENTS: C programming, C++ really useful, MS Visual C++ Ver 5 (you can have ver 2 and up and still survive too), More than 21 days! :) , At least 40MB to store your code and executables.OVERALL: Great book! A wonderful stepping stone to get you into Vis C++. The book has you write a cool and useful program for each day, step by step.

Terrific for young/beginning programmers

As a middle school VC++ programming teacher I am really impressed with how imaginative, patient and well thought out the book is. No effort is wasted, all experinces in the tutorial introduce and reinforce concepts and skills which enable the learner, encourage experimentation, and yet thoroughly support the novice. Not wordy in the least, but key concepts are clearly explained. I recommend it to my students, and anyone who finds VC++ and MFC imposing but inviting.
