Sam Norkin, often called "that other caricaturist", has been drawing caricatures for over fifty years. He is frequently compared to Al Hirschfeld, the caricaturist of the New York Times. Some would even say that he catches the spirit of the performer better. Regardless, he is up there with the best. In this book Norkin provides not only a collection of some of his finest drawings from the world of Theater, Opera, Ballet and Movies, he also provides some commentary and recollections from his extensive career. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at the drawings, which are professionaly reproduced, though several it seems are not from the best of copies, and found his recollections and comments fascinating. This book is a must for anyone interested in the entertainment industry of the second half of the Twentieth Century as it gives both a visual history as well as a written collection of anecdotes from the artist. As Norkin is still active and even present on the Web with some more recent drawings, one can only hope for a sequel sometime in the future with more recent drawings and more personal recollections.
