Salma discovers that leadership is more than setting an example, and that we can learn even from those we teach in the sixth installment of the award-winning Salma early chapter book series.
Salma's got some big new responsibilities: at home, she's helping out more with her baby sister Nora, and at school, she's mentoring Yaseen, a younger Syrian newcomer. With all the baby gear and gadgets, Salma is unsure how to keep Nora safe, let alone how to keep her happy.
How does Mama do it all so perfectly? Salma feels much more confident with Yaseen. She remembers what it was like to be new to Canada and decides to teach him exactly what she did to settle in. Only the harder she tries to get him to do things her way, the more he draws into himself. Struggling to connect with her mentee and worried she's falling short as a big sister, Salma gets more and more overwhelmed . . . until she finds out something surprising about Mama that totally changes how she relates to Yaseen and Nora--and how she sees herself.
