When he goes limp in her arms, she finds herself covered in blood and wondering who would want him dead. Daniel Bishop sets out to find Kenneth's killer but soon finds more than he bargained for in Anise. She is one of the most intriguing women he has ever met, but for his job's sake he must keep her at arms length. As the mystery of her husband unravels, Daniel and Anise must keep her safe until the killer can be brought to justice. Daniel and Anise may play primary roles in this romantic novel, but the psyche of the secondary characters turn this into one twisted tale. From Anise's quirks, to the honesty and integrity that exude from Daniel, Kay David has written a novel that will leave her readers reeling with emotional meltdowns. Sarah may be Anise's best friend, but as the story comes alive, her emotional problems become apparent, and leave readers wondering, just how these two women stay friends. Other secondary characters give this novel enough depth to make it feel real, to make the scenes feel so realistic, that it is as though the heat from the fire during the ending are singeing the hairs on the back of reader's necks. exhilarating police procedural romance

Houston homicide detective Daniel Bishop is assigned as lead investigator into the shooting death of attorney Kenneth Borden. His prime suspect is the deceased's wife Anise, who was hugging the victim when he was shot especially since the Bordens were divorcing. Upon meeting Anise to interview her, to his shock, Daniel is attracted to the most likely culprit though he tries to hide his desire beyond a facade of professionalism. Daniel's early inquiries begin to build strong case that Anise killed her husband though his heart wishes otherwise. He knows he should withdraw from the case due to a conflict of interest as his attraction for her grows making it difficult to focus properly; but he also needs to be the one to arrest her if she is the killer. When a second murder occurs, Daniel wonders if he could have fallen in love with a potential serial killer as once again evidence points towards Anise. This is an exhilarating police procedural romance in which the hero struggles between his personal feelings for the prime suspect and the distinct possibility that she is a serial killer. Although Daniel knows he needs to beg off the case because of a conflict of interest and fears he is using his wrong head, he keeps digging as he is also fixated on being the one to prove she is or is not the killer. The sub-genre audience will appreciate this strong character driven romantic suspense thriller. Harriet Klausner
