Running Among the Trees-: New & Selected Poems

Running Among the Trees-New & Selected Poems is a vibrant and uplifting collection that includes 147 of Ahrend Torrey's best poems, handpicked by him from five previously published collections. Not only does this collection showcase his best work thus far, but it begins with 26 new poems, titled Running Among the Trees-that read like an enchanted story all their own. The 30 new poems throughout this collection encapsulate Chicago's surrounding nature and fuse it with Ahrend's mediative, resilient voice. This collection is a testament to Ahrend's ever-evolving style and to his growth as a poet, a collection that will leave you feeling hopeful while acknowledging that we live in a time that feels less so. (For every copy of this collection that is sold via the lulu.com bookstore, a donation will be made to the Jane Goodall Institute or similar organization.) Ahrend Torrey is the author of This Moment (Pinyon Publishing, 2024); If it's darkness we're having, let it be extravagant: The Jane Kenyon Erasure Poems (Pinyon Publishing, 2024); For What Are The Blossoms Reaching? (Limited Artist's Edition, American Academy of Bookbinding, 2023); Ripples (Pinyon Publishing, 2023); Bird City, American Eye (Pinyon Publishing, 2022); and Small Blue Harbor (The Poetry Box "Select," 2019). His work has appeared in Denver Quarterly; North Dakota Quarterly; Panorama: The Journal of Travel, Place, and Nature; storySouth; The Greensboro Review; The Perch (a journal of the Yale Program for Recovery and Community Health, a program of the Yale School of Medicine); The Westchester Review; Welter; and West Trade Review, among others. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and is a recipient of the Etruscan Prize awarded by Etruscan Press. He lives in Chicago with his husband, Jonathan, and enjoys exploring the nearby parks, forests, and dunes.
