Laabi is a former prisoner of conscience in Morocco, and this is a book about both his torture and time in prison, as well as his release and reintroduction into normal life. His accounts are descriptive to the point of being poetic, devastating, and dreamlike. This is the kind of book that takes over your thoughts and changes your world while you are reading it. It's short, and it is well worth your while.
