Refreshing

This is the fourth book in the newest Texas Cattleman's Club and is the story of Connor Thorne, twin brother of Jake Thorne from the first book in the series. Strong willed Nita Windcroft has approached the Club several times about mishaps that are occuring on her ranch and when her father is hurt as a result, the club sends ex-ranger Connor to protect Nita. Nita is convinced that their enemies the Devlins are behind all the problems and thinks Connor is there to protect the ranch, but the club fears Nita will be the next target and that the real culprit is after legend Jessamine Golden's hidden gold. Connor is Jake's opposite, he is reserved and responsible...he is afraid to get emotionally involved with anyone because he believes his inner rage will cause pain to anyone he cares about. Nita is instantly attracted to Connor, she is the alpha female, not a shy young maid. She decides she wants Connor and pursues him ruthlessly. However, Nita is just looking for a physical relationship, she knows she can never be wifely material, she can't cook, clean or do any of those domestic chores. She is the ultimate tomboy working the ranch just like all the other hands. Connor can't believe how beautiful tomboy Nita is and when he gets to know her decides he is willing to take the chance of having a real relationship but can he convince Nita this is a forever kind of thing... I loved this story, Nita is so different than any typical female character in most romances. As a matter of fact, its almost like Connor and Nita have assumed the opposite roles usually given to the man and woman but it really works and I just loved this book. Good addition to the series and don't forget it has the intrigue of the secret diary mystery.
