Root of Evil

By Remy Welch

Ola and Chu are elite Extractors in the mostly docile metropolis of Taroom City. Their job is to hunt down Earth's few remaining criminals and exile them off-world to fight in an interstellar war. But their latest case defies all logic; a murderer who bores holes into the skulls of his victims while somehow evading the global surveillance network.

The Extractors are no strangers to the abnormal; their neurodivergence is precisely why they were chosen for their job, but the case is complicated by an alien hive mind that looms off-world. Could it be the cause of the strange events taking place on Earth, or is the seemingly utopian society hiding a human evil? This flawed but brilliant detective duo prove that seeing the world differently isn't a weakness-it's the only way to save it.

"Author Remy Welch transports us to a world with new hard rules. It's a tough world, a non forgiving one, a mean one. It's hard to be bleak and hopeful at the same time, much less blend sci-fi, noir and fantasy so sublimely, but Welch is able to find the balance through a true reverence for the characters they've created and the wisdom to see them to the end of their spiritual rope. Herbert and Tolkien are rolling in their graves, wishing they'd thought of this first."
