Trucker Tim Harrison is back, years away from Webber's first novel, Whipping Post. Having sold his old truck, he's now a company driver for Saxon Brothers Trucking out of Dallas Texas. He's settled down on a small ranch outside of Cave Creek Arizona. He and Rory, his dog, are assigned a route between El Paso Texas and Tijuana Mexico with a brand new truck. Life is looking up. But Tim's still fighting demons in his head from the rape and murder of his wife, the mother of his two children. When a fellow Saxon Brothers trucker is murdered by a theft ring working out of El Paso, Tim's old buddy, the colorful and head-strong JD Tolliver gets involved in hunting down the gang. In the process, JD winds up in the hospital with a bullet wound. Now with two employees having been attacked by the same theft ring, and seemingly little interest by the police, the owner of the company, John Saxon, gets involved. He enlists Tim's assistance, pulling Tim back into a situation Tim is not sure he wants to become involved with. He has other things on his mind, his job, his ranch, and possibly a new love interest.
