Along Route 61, music greats like Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis played roadside clubs filled with smoke, sex and a driving beat. Today, these jive joints seem to be a thing of the past--until a sheriff's deputy stumbles upon a mystery that will take him into the cheating heart of rockabilly hell. In the last 40 years, over 500 people have disappeared along this stretch of highway.
Cole Younger is a Vietnam vet and just about to retire sheriff's deputy when he goes to transport a prisoner, its late at night and he sees a bar and decides to stop to catch the breeze when he witnesses an assault and murder. He goes to his car to wait for the locals to come to give them a statement, only to watch it disappear and then re-appear before his very eyes. The next morning Cole meets up with his prisoner who describes what he witnessed that night, this sends Cole and a missing man's sister down the rabbit hole so to speak with supernatural evil. From demonic honky tonks, to evil vengeful spirits its a fantastic read done by Johnstone.
Out of ordinary

If you liked the author’s Darkly the Thunder then this book is for you. A retired cop who runs into some place totally unexpected. A woman’s older brother who can’t be found. Crooks getting away with murder. Bars popping from out of nowhere. Some many storylines behind the main one. If I had 5 thumbs they would all be up. Truely captivating read.
Is Rock and Roll the Devil's music?
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 27 years ago
Rockabilly Hell is the first of two books centered around rural bars. The Devil taunts our hero with rockabilly music and takes the souls of whoever wanders into these taverns. One might believe that Johnstone could have written this book to side with the view of some in the 50's and 60's that rock and roll is a corrupting force, always in combination with alcohol and hell raising. But that is what makes this book so entertaining! Enjoy!
