Doyle and Abby are sloppy assassins, but they get the job done. However, that's not good enough for an assassins guild that is getting more pressure from the public to keep assassinations clean, and to revoke the licenses of those who can't. This just means that Doyle and Abby have to take on a big hit to pay the fines. But when the hit ends up being one of Doyle's ex-girlfriends, Abby gets jealous.
This book is something I've been looking forward to reading for quite sometime. Tracy and Nate really went to town on this project and I was astonished at how easy it was to forget that I'm a friend of theirs. Right from the first few pages I found myself thoroughly engrossed in the hilarious, action-packed storyline. So many little plot threads, so many throwaway sight gags and so very many great "bits" that made me literally laugh outloud. Riding Shotgun is just as violent as the title implies and suffice to say that readers who don't appreciate rampant, over-the-top psycho violence should definitely seek their jollies elsewhere. As for me, I loved every minute I spent with these silly, yet three-dimensional characters. The kinetic artwork serves the story well with cartoony visuals that seem perfectly realized. Tokyopop should be praised for allowing Tracy Yardley to draw in his own unique style and not force him to use a more "japanese" stylebook. Many people continue to fail to reaize that manga means a lot more than sailor costumes, speed lines and cherry blossoms floating in the wind. Manga is also about attitude and style, ingenuity and storytelling precision. Yardley and Bowden deliver a great big bang for your buck (well, for your ten bucks) and volume two can't get here fast enough!
