Cute, but not a keeper

From the back cover: "Dear Mrs. Brown..." So the letter began and Sarah read on, only to wonder why a Mr. Jonah Sinclair was writing to tell her of his imminent arrival in Denver! But she realized it was too late to do anything about this mail mix-up when a sexy stranger turned up on the doorstep of the wrong Mrs. Brown--hers! After the death of her husband, Sarah told herself that neither she nor her young son needed a man in their lives. And yet Brody had made it clear that what he really wanted for Christmas was a dad. He seemed to think that Mr. Sinclair was perfect for the role. And even Sarah had to admit that there were some things Jonah was perfect at--kissing for instance. But would she find a hero or just heartbreak under the mistletoe? And my review: I bought this book because, from reading the back cover description, I was lead to believe that this was a Christmas romance. It wasn't. That isn't to say that it wasn't enjoyable. It was. Rebecca Winters is very good at engaging the emotions. She is also one of those rare writers who makes well rounded characters of the children in her books, as well the hero and heroine. While the plot device of mistaken identity is an over-used one, this story somehow managed to keep it from feeling stale. Perhaps that was because the author only used it to introduce the hero and heroine to each other, and did not rely on it to carry the rest of the book. The struggle of a widow who wants to make it on her own, yet can't help falling in love, was a touching one. And watching Brody torn between wanting to have a father and obeying the mother that he loves was also a compelling one. While this wasn't a book to keep and re-read, it was still very enjoyable, and I recommend it.
