Restless Legs Syndrome - RLS and Cannabis
The strongest effect ever reported - on the weakest kind of evidence there is.
Eighteen people worldwide have ever been described as using cannabis for their restless legs. Fourteen of them reported that the symptoms had disappeared completely: a figure no licensed treatment has ever reached. There is no controlled trial.
This volume sets out both sides, the remarkable observation and the reasons why it does not carry. It explains the placebo effect in this condition in particular, separates THC from cannabidiol, follows the possible routes of action through dopamine and adenosine, and names the interactions with the RLS medicines.
It also covers what is rarely discussed: when cannabis makes the legs more restless, tolerance and withdrawal, the route through the lungs - and what needs settling before the cannabis question arises at all.
