One of the best books on the therapeutic process

This is the third time I have purchased this book (because I inevitably lend my copy to a colleague or supervisee). I find this book to be an eloquent and compelling primer on the relational vulnerability of therapist and patient. It is well written and more important, it is experience near in its depiction of what can go wrong and what go right in psychotherapy. I always teach the chapter on the therapist's vulnerability to my supervisees as a way to take them out of "clinical" mind and introduce them to "relational" mind. The chapter never fails to inspire and deepen my students' experiences as budding clinicians. Regardless of theoretical persuasion, clinicians of all stripes and hues will find this book invaluable.
