A Straight Forward Western

Fargo is leading a supply train toward a proposed peace conference between the United States and the restless tribes in the Indian Nations. On reaching their destination the U.S. delegation are dead and mutilated. Sign points to the Cherokee Nighthawk Society - a band of elite warriors who can kill a man fifty ways before he hits the ground. But Fargo's keen eye tells him that someone is setting up the Cherokee for a massacre... This is a pretty straight-forward tale with little mystery to the plot as the author reveals who is doing what almost from the word go. Having said that it is a very readable story. It's a book filled with many characters and the tale jumps from one to another, meaning Skye Fargo isn't in it as much as other books. There's plenty of action and humour. So in conclusion, a Fargo that talks differently to other authors portrayal of him, and if this doesn't bother the reader they'll find Renegade Raiders an entertaining enough read.

Unique Western

This might be TRAILSMAN #289, but RENEGADE RAIDERS is a unique, finely-penned western. Sure, it's a typical Skye Fargo adventure, full of despicable villains, tight scrapes (How IS Skye going to get out of THIS one?) and a luscious woman (a Cherokee Princess, a `war woman' with killer instincts and killer looks), however, RENEGADE RAIDERS brings one of the great, noble eastern tribes into the wild west mix. The Cherokee, now living peacefully in `The Nations', are pitted against a gathering of renegades from the great plains warrior tribes, Comanche and Kiowas. Stirred up by equally renegade whites, Skye is drawn, with his trail friend Yellowstone Jack (an hilarious old timer with an hellacious temper and an equally hellacious horse), and the entire secret Cherokee Nighthawk Society, along with their `war woman' princess, into a clash-to-the-death against the forces of evil. The battle of Cherokees in their war canoes against the renegade plains tribesmen is worth the cost of the book alone. This is a DON'T MISS western for any fan of well-written, fast paced yarns. John Edward Ames, writing as Jon Sharpe, proves again he's one of the best western writers working today.
