Regarding Charlie

By Cecil Bothwell

Asheville in the 21st century cultivates the soft corruption of backroom dealing and the invasive influence of developer cash. But-thanks in large part to Charlie Thomas-the community has learned to fight back.
Charlie Thomas has dedicated his life to social and economic justice. From Harlan County, Kentucky, a place impoverished by the machinations of King Coal, to the battlegrounds of anti-war, anti-racist, union and municipal politics, his is a hero's journey that has greatly impacted the citizens of Asheville, North Carolina. Yet, many who have joined these fights for preservation and justice have never heard of Charlie, let alone know how he organized the very groups in which they strive.

REGARDING CHARLIE is an essential read for anyone who has wanted to organize resistance-but doesn't know how to begin-as well as citizens of Asheville curious about the undercurrents of our city's less-than-ethical politics-REGARDING CHARLIE demonstrates how those those who prefer to remain unseen can have enormous impact in holding our politicians and justice systems accountable.
