Target (Star Wars Rebel Force #1) is a great book and it is good to read. It has 22 chapters and they are at least 10-20 pages long.

Five Stars + This is the Star Wars I love to read

Rebel Force Target takes us almost completely back to the events immediately after A New Hope. Its such a fun read. Luke is back to the normal just off the farm boy who's trying to be a Jedi. Leia is back to fierce and feisty princess we've all known and loved. Han is back to his roots of not wanting anything to do with the Rebellion. Its so fun to listen to her and Han fighting again like normal. Its really so much fun to read the charactors acting like themselves. On the Empire front the Emperor wants to know exactly who it was who blew up the Death Star and sets his top Imperials to do just that. There's also a nice nod to Thrawn which I didn't expect. One Imperial plans to inflitrate the Alliance in order to do it specifically by getting close to Leia. On the Rebel front they have their own worries one being keeping the Empire from finding out it was Luke. And money problems since the majority of the Alliance's money was on Alderaan when it blew. The Alliance sends Leia on the mission of getting money that was deposited on Munn with Luke's help and of course Han. Its so much fun to read. I can't wait to see what the rest of this series is like.

Star Wars the way it was

I picked this book up at a book fair at my daughter's school and started reading and ended up buying it because I was so interested in the story. It is aimed at a younger audience (it says 8-12) but never seems to be talking down to it readers. Best of all it takes you back to Star Wars as we once knew it, a long time ago in that galaxy far far away. the EU has wandered a long way (40+ years) from that time and that galaxy looks very different now than it did. I, for one, have spent a lot of time in the NJO era lately and it was a welcome change for me to go back to the time right after Star Wars (aka A New Hope) - before Luke was a Jedi Master, and before Han and Leia had figured out they belonge together. This story takes place very shortly after the destruction of the Death Star as the Empire is trying to track down the pilot who launched the fatal shot. Meanwhile the Rebels are trying to recover some lost funds from Alderaan on the banking planet of Muunilinst. And there is a traitor in their midst, someone they think is their ally. all good stuff and keeps you reading. leaves you hanging waiting for the next installment, which I hope will be just as good. I feel that far too little time has been spent on this time period in Star Wars history. Perhaps it is daunting to writers to work in such a box - there are limits to where you can go because we know where they end up in Empire Strikes Back. But I think that makes this a more, rather than less, interesting time period. I recommend this book for all readers, not just 8-12 year olds.

Thank Goodness! SW is back!

After years of depressing EU novels, this is a refreshing breathe of fresh air. Rebel Force: Target by Alex Wheeler is a book I am so happy to have given a shot. This series takes place shortly after A New Hope and stars our heroes Han, Luke, and Leia, along with other favorites. The series is a glimpse of what happened to get the group to get them from A New Hope to The Empire Strikes Back. In Target, Han, Leia, Luke, and the droids are sent to Muunilinst to gather secret funds that Alderaan housed there. With Alderaan destroyed, they need them and need them soon if they are to deal with the Empire, which is on there tail. But there is an unsuspecting traitor in our heroes mist who only wants to please the Empire. Target has what you've come to expect from Star Wars EU with out the depressing story lines and character deaths. I suggest that if you are a fan of star wars, young and old, you pick this up. Perfect for the age group it was written for (8 to 12), but also perfect for those adult EU fans who don't want to continue past NJO or LotF and only want to feel the sense of escapism they found originally in the SW universe.
