The director made me go on a business trip.
Lucas is no longer only saying what he does. He is learning to describe what happens to him, what someone makes or lets him do, and how to speak with the respect professional Korean requires.
Welcome to 일의 세계Lucas has been hired by a small photo studio. The warm Korean of friends and neighbors is no longer enough. At work, he must understand assignments, clients, bosses, and colleagues.
What Makes B2.1 Different?B1.2 gave you reasons, hearsay, descriptions, and respectful giving-and-receiving. B2.1 adds grammar for actions, status, and responsibility.
Passive voice: things happen to you - 뽑혔어요, 불렸어요, 칭찬받았어요.Causative voice: people make or let someone act - 가게 했어요, 쉬게 했어요, 먹여요.Honorific speech: raise the subject with -(으)시-, 께서, 계시다, and 말씀하시다.Humble speech: lower yourself with 저, 뵙다, 여쭙다, 말씀드리다, 모시다, 드리다.Formal Korean: use 합니다체, -(으)십시오, 알겠습니다, and 잘 부탁드립니다.Core GrammarThe passive has no single ending. Korean uses several strategies: 선택되다, 보이다, 들리다, 불리다, 부탁받다, 칭찬받다. Korean has no true adversity passive; use -는 바람에 or 당하다.
The causative shows authority and permission. 대표님이 저를 출장 가게 했어요 can mean the director made or sent Lucas. 선배가 저를 좀 쉬게 했어요 means his senior let him rest.
The honorific-humble system is central. Honorifics are broad but systematic: -(으)시- works with almost any verb. The humble side is smaller but essential.
The Story ContinuesLucas is now a working photographer. His guide is 이서연, his 선배 at the studio - patient, precise, and practical. Through her, he learns grammar and workplace relationships.
루카 is 25, learning professional Korean.
코코, his small brown dog, waits at home.
민지 helps him process work.
박 사장님 still encourages him.
이서연 teaches respectful speech.
제 사진이 뽑혔어요. My photo was chosen.
존댓말도 잘 쓸 수 있게 됐어요. I became able to use respectful speech well too.
The English meaning appears directly with the Korean, helping you understand without guessing. Read the interlinear version first, then try the Korean-only version.
