Disappointed…

Excellent Bible stories for kids!

There are many children's Bible in the market. I even have three for my kids and it is difficult for parents to choose certain parts of the Bible to share and explain to the kids. However, our troubles are lessened by this wonderful "Read & Share Bible" by Thomas Nelson Publisher. 1. It is arranged according to the order of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. Therefore it is easy to follow the story line. 2. The book compiled "more than 200 best loved Bible stories" so that kids can easily grow up acquainting themselves with the major stories of the Bible. 3. Each story is comprised of: (a) story title, (b)Biblical references for where the story came from, (c) less than 100 words, (d) discussion (or sharing) question at the end of the story and (e)very colorful and cute illustrations that match the story. 4. Each story is short and therefore the kids will be able to pay attention more. 5. You could also use the book for "devotional" time with the kids. Since it is chewable, it will not overwhelm the kids. 6. The book is stitched ("smyth-sewn") and not glued, therefore it will last a long time. I think, this is an excellent introduction Bible for the kids ages 4-6. My son (6 years old) has been reading it on his own since I gave him the book. He really enjoys it! The "discussion starter" question at the end of each story will help the parents to engage with their kids about faith and God and more. Highly recommended!

Toddler Bible

The Read and Share Toddler Bible is a great gift for that toddler in your life. It is 192 pages of Bible stories that are told in simple and short words. Each story starts with a reference so that parents can teach kids where they can find the story in the Bible. The pictures are simple and colorful. At the end of each story there is either an activity for parents to do with their child or something to discuss with the child. There are a total of forty stories. As a bonus a DVD is included with the book. This is great for listening to when traveling or put it in so your child can listen while you do that small bit of house work. I enjoyed this so much that I need to make sure I have one for each of my children to share with their kids

Read and Share Toddler Bible Review!

I was thrilled to receive the 'Read and Share Toddler Bible' from the Thomas Nelson Publishing Group to review. Not only do I understand the importance of literacy with young child being a graduate student in Early Child Development, but also the significance of teaching my children about the Bible. It even includes a Toddler Bible DVD with fourteen different three minute stories! The Toddler Bible is by Gwen Ellis with illustrations by Steve Smallman (which are great!). At first I was not sure if the text would be geared enough towards toddlers because it was rather wordy, but I was definitely wrong. The words and illustrations make each short story unique and easy for toddlers to remember. The wording is very interactive and corresponds to the illustrations making it very great for toddlers to point and follow along. Following each story is special section for parents about activities/crafts that can done together as a family in relation to the story. For example, following the story of Noah's Ark, is suggests parents to create rainbows with their children and talk about the significance of God's promise. I would highly recommend this book to any parent of a toddler or child up to the age of five. I cannot wait to read this Bible with my little one and enjoy the activities together. I am sure that this book would spark many conversations between parents and young children and could be used as a great tool for family devotionals.

Children's DVD Bible

As a grandmother, I am always looking for ways to share the word of God with my grandchildren. There has been a lot of Christian information written and produced for children, but so much of it is not well done. This is not the case with Read and Share DVD Bible volume one. This DVD is a 60 minute DVD that is separated into 13 different Bible stories. There are eight Old Testament stories and five from the New Testament. The animation is not what you would call modern day movie quality, but it is very adequate. The music is not overpowering as some, which keeps your attention on the message of the story. Also the voices are in keeping with the authority of the Word of God. It is a combination of narration and the individual Bible characters talking, but mainly narration. It is done in a way that a child can clearly understand the message and yet it is not childish. The stories are not done in King James Version, but are biblically accurate. I would recommend this DVD to be used in Sunday Schools, home schools, daycare or for individual young children. I can't wait for my youngest grandchildren to watch it because I know they will be blessed.

Lots of bible stories, but short

We just started using this bible with our 2 year old. We only pick and choose several stories to read to our 2 year old over and over again in the morning, as some stories are harder for a 2 year old to comprehend. We like it because it feels like a "real" bible for kids, as it contains so many stories organized in the same way as a real bible. Note that each story is quite abridged. And because we're reading to a 2 year old, we don't read word for word...we have to modify and simplify the wordings a little so it's easy for her to understand. As we repeat the stories over and over again, she gets it. [...] Overall, we feel that all the picture bibles include quite a bit of interpretation from the author. I guess there's no way around it when you have to draw a picture to describe a story (e.g. they may include a dog in a scene that isn't described in the Bible...etc. Sometimes my 2 year old focuses on the DOG or any other children/animal drawn on the page more than the story being told). Just beware of this and try to hit home the true message when you're reading to your children!
