City Boy goes west

John McBride is a New York City cop whose forced to go west after killing a gang lord's son. His superiors pay his wages for a year and put him on a train to High Hopes Colorado hoping that after so long he can return. The Hell's Kitchen born cop is plunged into a world unlike anything he could ever imagine, a world of outlaw marshals, orphan trains, and mastermind saloon girls. Soon John McBride will find himself unable to return home, for he shall be forever changed by the beauty and brutality of the west.

GO WEST, YOUNG MAN, GO WEST!

A New York City policeman has killed a son of a violent gang leader, with a death sentence from the gang leader now placed on his head, his department superiors and the mayor too, order him to go west. Detective Sergeant John McBride is given a year's salary in advance and, amid a farewell hail of bullets, hops aboard a westbound train on a very rainy, bleak night. Though he is still carried on the New York City payroll, he now faces being a stranger abroad in a strange land. The time he will spend away from the big city will change him in ways he could never have imagined. From the pen of Joseph A. West comes a very interesting story based on a real life person, Detective Inspector Thomas Byrnes and the police department of New York City in the early 1880s. First few chapters deal with New York and the transition, with the remainder of the story set in the 'old' west. Sgt. McBride's adventures begin almost the moment he steps off the train in the wide open, 'west of the law' booming town of High Hopes, Colorado. Read this story from the Ralph Compton gunfigher library of westerns and enjoy. The next Compton is already hitting the presses and should be out in December, 2007; entitled BLOOD DUEL and written by David Robbins. Semper Fi.
